Director - Commercial Legal

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Commercial Legal team at a fast-growing global HR-tech scale-up, driving pragmatic and innovative legal solutions for sales, partnerships, and procurement transactions.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for Commercial Legal, leading the team to support sales, partnership, and vendor contract reviews and negotiations, ensuring timely support during critical periods (month-end/quarter-end).
• Empower Go-To-Market (GTM) teams by upgrading commercial terms, simplifying sales contracting processes, and providing proactive training.
• Provide strategic support for partnership deal negotiations, drafting bespoke terms that balance business intent with commerciality.
• Collaborate with Revenue Operations and Legal Operations to automate workflows, leverage AI for contracting efficiency, and maintain the Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) system.
• Guide, mentor, and nurture a team of 3-5 commercial lawyers, providing constructive feedback.
• Institute best practices and lead training to enhance the Legal Team's efficiency and knowledge base.

Requirements

• Must be a qualified lawyer in your location.
• Technically excellent commercial contracts lawyer with extensive experience in sales, partnership, and procurement transactions, ideally within HR Tech and/or SaaS.
• Proven experience as an outstanding team leader who mentors, motivates, and develops direct reports.
• Excellent ability to build trusted relationships with key stakeholders in a fully remote environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills; preference for solving issues rather than escalating them.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.

Nice-to-Haves

• Previous in-house experience in a similar role within a tech scale-up.
• Experience working with AI tools to enhance legal processes.
• Familiarity with Remote's tech stack (Slack, Notion, Coupa, Google Drive).
