Employment Counsel (US)

About the Role

Join Plaid's growing Enterprise Legal Services team as a trusted advisor on U.S. employment law matters, playing a critical role in scaling our policies and supporting our global operations during a period of rapid growth.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical counsel to the People Team and business leaders on day-to-day employment issues across the entire employee lifecycle, from hiring through termination.
• Design, implement, and scale employment policies, programs, resources, and processes to ensure compliant and efficient growth.
• Draft, review, and maintain essential employment documents, including offer letters, employee handbooks, codes of conduct, and separation agreements.
• Monitor federal, state, and local employment law developments, translating legal changes into clear, actionable guidance for the company.
• Collaborate with the People Team to manage sensitive employee relations issues and internal investigations with sound judgment and empathy.
• Serve as the employment law subject matter expert on cross-functional projects such as new office openings or organizational changes.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience practicing employment law (labor & employment) in a law firm, government agency, or in-house setting.
• JD degree required, along with U.S. Bar admission in at least one state.
• Proven ability to distill complex legal concepts into clear, succinct, and pragmatic advice for non-lawyer stakeholders (HR and business leaders).
• Demonstrated high ethical standards, sound judgment, and the ability to handle confidential employee matters with discretion.
• Experience providing employment counseling (advising on HR/employment matters) is preferred.
