Intermediate Site Reliability Engineer, Environment Automation

About the Role

Join GitLab's Infrastructure team to specialize in automating the lifecycle of hundreds of customer environments, ensuring consistency, security, and reliability at scale using Infrastructure as Code principles.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to automating the provisioning, configuration, and management of GitLab environments using Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes.
• Assist in investigating and troubleshooting production issues within Kubernetes clusters and GitLab services.
• Write and maintain Terraform modules and scripts to automate routine operations and improve CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure changes.
• Help monitor environment health using tools like Prometheus, ELK, and Grafana, assisting in observability improvements.
• Participate in the incident response process, helping triage alerts and support resolution efforts under senior guidance.

Requirements

• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools, specifically Terraform and Ansible, for managing cloud infrastructure.
• Foundational experience using kubectl and Helm to interact with Kubernetes clusters, understanding core concepts like pods and deployments.
• Basic programming skills, capable of reading and modifying tooling written in Go, Ruby, or similar languages.
• Experience working with multiple environments or customer setups, understanding consistency and isolation challenges.
• Familiarity with basic observability tools (metrics/logs) and experience participating in on-call rotations for production systems.
