Senior Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of major team-scoped projects and actively participate in cross-team initiatives.
• Design and implement robust APIs, prioritizing performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Actively participate in product work by providing technical feedback and suggesting product improvements.
• Contribute to the shared codebase, including writing clean, well-tested code and providing constructive feedback during code reviews.
• Debug and resolve complex technical and business issues across the platform.
• Mentor and provide guidance to other engineers on the team.

Requirements

• Significant professional experience as a Senior Backend Engineer, including building, shipping, and maintaining complex software projects.
• Proven expertise with relational databases, specifically Postgres or similar SQL technologies.
• Experience working with and leveraging CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab, GitHub, Jenkins).
• Ability to take ownership, act proactively, and thrive in an asynchronous work environment.

Nice-to-Haves

• Professional experience with Functional Programming languages such as Elixir or Erlang.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, specifically AWS.
• Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
• Exposure to modern frontend frameworks like Next.js, React, or Vue.

Role Context

• You will be joining one of several cross-functional development teams focused on specific product verticals.
• Our current backend stack relies heavily on Elixir and Phoenix, backed by a Postgres database.
• We deploy multiple times per day, relying heavily on our CI/CD processes hosted on AWS.
