Senior Software Engineer, Grafana OSS Big Tent

About the Role

Join Grafana Labs as a Senior Software Engineer on the OSS Big Tent squad to lead the development and enhancement of critical open source data source plugins that power Grafana dashboards globally. This is an exciting opportunity to drive reliability and innovation within a remote-first, open-source powerhouse.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of new open source data source plugins to integrate third-party services and databases into Grafana.
• Continuously improve existing plugins, such as Prometheus, Loki, Infinity, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
• Ensure the operational reliability and performance of plugins within Grafana Cloud.
• Participate actively in on-call rotations to support production software and respond to incidents.
• Propose and implement improvements to development processes and workflows.
• Collaborate closely with the broader Data Sources team and other Grafana Division squads to solve complex engineering challenges.

Requirements

• Solid professional experience as a Backend Engineer with deep expertise in Go and backend services.
• Strong coding skills and proven operational experience, including responsibility for the software you build.
• Experience participating in on-call rotations for production software support.
• Ability to transform complex ideas into working code, designing solutions, gathering feedback, and delivering large projects autonomously.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English for clearly articulating design decisions.
• Comfort working effectively in a remote-first, highly collaborative environment, valuing autonomy and shipping working code.

Nice-to-Haves

• Familiarity with frontend technologies like TypeScript, React, Redux, and RxJS.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment strategies.
• Familiarity with observability tools like Prometheus or other Grafana ecosystem components.
