Senior Software Engineer, Observability

About the Role

Join Airtable as a Senior Software Engineer focused on Observability to architect and scale the critical logging, metrics, and tracing systems that ensure reliability for millions of users.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and evolution of large-scale logging, metrics, and tracing pipelines.
• Evaluate and integrate new observability technologies such as OpenTelemetry, ClickHouse, or the ELK stack.
• Partner with infrastructure and product teams to deeply embed observability into the development lifecycle.
• Define and uphold operational excellence standards, including setting SLAs and SLOs for observability tools.
• Shape the long-term observability roadmap, prioritizing high-impact initiatives for reliability and performance.

Requirements

• 6+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years focused on observability or infrastructure at scale.
• Demonstrated success implementing and running production-grade logging, metrics, or tracing systems.
• Deep proficiency in distributed systems concepts, data streaming pipelines, and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Hands-on knowledge of tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, OpenTelemetry, or ClickHouse.
• Comfort building and maintaining tooling in at least one major language (e.g., Go, Python, Java).
• Proven ability to balance strategic long-term vision with immediate operational needs.
