Senior SRE/DevOps Engineer

About the Role

Join Metabase as a Senior SRE/DevOps Engineer to build, operate, and scale our rapidly growing 'Metabase Cloud' hosted product on AWS, ensuring reliability and performance for tens of thousands of users.

Responsibilities

• Own and operate the application stack and AWS infrastructure to orchestrate and manage hosted customer instances of Metabase.
• Debug runtime issues across the application and hosting stacks.
• Develop and build internal tooling and automation for the lifecycle management of hosted Metabase installations (purchase, deployment, zero-downtime upgrades, operational health).
• Continuously improve automated deployments and testing procedures.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience building and operating production infrastructure, ideally on public cloud.
• Strong experience with Kubernetes and AWS.
• Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Terraform.
• Ability to write high-quality, readable code in a modern language (e.g., Python, Go).
• Experience with modern monitoring stacks (e.g., Prometheus/Grafana/Datadog).
• Must be thoughtful, careful, and compulsively focused on automation and documentation.

Role Impact & Projects

• Contribute directly to critical projects such as multi-region hosting, automating EKS cluster provisioning, and extending CRDs/Operators.
• Improve the RDS sharding strategy for our multi-tenant platform.
• Collaborate with core developers to enhance application metrics, deployment speeds, and CI integration.
• Maintain SOC2 compliance and overall security posture.
