Backend Engineer

About the Role

Join the Reddit Pro team as a Backend Engineer to build novel products and features that empower brands and publishers to engage with Reddit communities. This high-impact role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to technical and product strategy from the ground floor of a new product space.

Responsibilities

• Work cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering counterparts to execute on strategy and build user-loved products.
• Contribute to the full development cycle, including technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch.
• Participate in code and design reviews, providing feedback on product specifications and mocks.
• Help define and improve developer workflows, recommend best practices, and mentor team engineers.
• Contribute to strategic planning and decision-making processes for backend development.

Requirements

• BS degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of coding experience in a production setting, writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
• 2+ years of industry experience designing large-scale distributed systems.
• Proficiency in object-oriented programming languages such as Golang, Python, or Java.
• Experience with GraphQL, REST, HTTP, Thrift, or gRPC basics, and the ability to design and implement maintainable APIs.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and keep projects on schedule.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with a track record of mentoring junior engineers.
• Entrepreneurial spirit, self-directed, innovative, and biased towards action in fast-paced environments.
