Director, Engineering - Task Automation

About the Role

Lead our high-impact Task Automation Engineering team to drive the strategic development and delivery of world-class automation solutions that power Camunda's core platform.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the technical roadmap and strategy for all task automation engineering initiatives.
• Lead, mentor, and grow a global team of engineering managers and high-performing engineers.
• Oversee the architecture, design, and implementation of highly scalable, reliable, and performant automation engines and services.
• Foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Manage budget, resource allocation, and delivery timelines for critical engineering projects.

Requirements

• Proven experience (8+ years) in software engineering, with significant time spent in technical leadership roles (e.g., Director, Senior Manager).
• Deep technical expertise in building and scaling distributed systems, workflow engines, or complex automation platforms.
• Strong understanding of modern cloud-native architectures (e.g., microservices, containerization).
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of influencing technical and business strategy.
• Experience managing remote or globally distributed engineering teams.

Nice-to-Haves

• Direct experience with Camunda Platform or similar BPM/workflow technologies.
• Background in developing high-throughput, low-latency systems.
• Familiarity with modern CI/CD practices and DevOps principles.
