Director of AI Engineering

About the Role

Lead the strategy and engineering execution for Apollo's applied AI systems, driving the next wave of innovation across autonomous agents, LLM workflows, and personalization at massive scale.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end delivery of the AI roadmap, spanning autonomous agentic systems, LLM-powered workflows, search, relevance, and production-grade ML infrastructure.
• Define the multi-year technical vision for the AI stack, including orchestration, inference, retrieval, and platformization.
• Lead the architecture and deployment of long-horizon autonomous agents and multi-agent workflows.
• Implement rigorous evaluation frameworks, including offline benchmarking, human-in-the-loop review, and online A/B experimentation for all AI features.
• Build and lead a world-class AI Engineering team, fostering a culture of experimentation, velocity, and pragmatic engineering.

Requirements

• 10–15+ years in software engineering, with significant leadership experience owning AI/ML or applied LLM systems at scale.
• Proven history shipping LLM-powered features, agentic workflows, or AI assistants used by real customers in production.
• Deep understanding of LLM orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex), RAG pipelines, vector search, and embeddings.
• Expert in backend & distributed systems, with Python strongly preferred, and experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP).
• Demonstrated ability to lead senior engineers, define technical roadmaps, and deliver outcomes aligned to business metrics.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience building or scaling teams working on personalization or ML-powered growth systems.
• Fluent in integrating AI tools into engineering workflows for velocity and operational efficiency.
