About the Role

Join our mission-driven startup as an Engineering Lead to provide hands-on technical leadership and shape the evolution of our grant discovery and management platform, leveraging AI to drive impact.

Responsibilities

• Drive technical planning and execution for an engineering team, from discovery to delivery.
• Partner on AI-backed product features, integrating models or AI services into production systems.
• Collaborate with Product and Design teams to connect technical feasibility with customer outcomes.
• Transform product development by applying cutting-edge AI tools.
• Raise technical standards for code quality, incident response, and overall engineering practices.
• Foster a team culture of ownership, constructive challenge, and continuous learning.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership role.
• Demonstrated ability to guide system design and drive execution on growing engineering teams.
• Practical experience shipping AI-powered product features or integrating third-party AI services.
• Proficiency in Ruby on Rails; experience with Python, JavaScript, PostgreSQL, Redis, HTML, and CSS is a plus.
• Strong collaborative approach, thriving in cross-functional environments.
• Bias for action and ownership in fast-paced, high-autonomy settings.
• Excitement about Instrumentl's mission to support nonprofits.
