Engineering Manager, Canvas Engineering

About the Role

Lead and mentor a high-performing team responsible for developing and scaling Zapier's core Canvas platform, directly impacting how thousands of users automate their workflows.

Responsibilities

• Manage, mentor, and grow a team of talented software engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and psychological safety.
• Drive the technical roadmap and execution for the Canvas platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Collaborate closely with Product Management and Design to define clear technical strategies that align with business goals.
• Oversee code quality, architectural decisions, and operational excellence for all services owned by the Canvas team.
• Participate in cross-functional leadership discussions to influence engineering strategy across the organization.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with significant experience building and scaling complex, high-throughput systems.
• 2+ years of direct experience managing or leading engineering teams (including performance management and career development).
• Deep technical understanding of modern cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS or similar) and distributed systems.
• Proven ability to navigate complex technical trade-offs and make sound architectural decisions.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating technical vision to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience managing remote or distributed engineering teams.
• Background in workflow automation, data pipelines, or complex state management systems.
• Familiarity with modern CI/CD practices and infrastructure-as-code tools.
