Engineering Manager (FS) - Design School Technology

About the Role

Lead a talented team in building and maintaining Canva's educational platform, empowering millions of users globally with design training.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of motivated engineers to build and maintain Canva's educational platform across web and mobile.
• Ensure the team is happy, healthy, high-performing, and delivering on the roadmap.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and stakeholders to shape and execute the product vision.
• Foster a collaborative environment for efficient and effective engineering deliverables.
• Lead by example, promoting Canva's values and a no-blame mentality.

Requirements

• Proven experience in technical leadership and people management.
• Strong full-stack technical background, with expertise in either Frontend (JavaScript, web technologies) or Backend (Java).
• Solid software engineering fundamentals, including design documentation and code reviews.
• Experience with cross-browser and cross-device development.
• Ability to work effectively in high-performing, collaborative teams.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience partnering across diverse teams (Product, Design).

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with A/B testing and Experiment Driven Development.
• Experience developing a Java backend.
• Experience developing mobile applications.
