Head of Core (Engineering)

About the Role

Lead the foundational engineering efforts at Supabase, driving the technical vision and execution for our core platform services. This pivotal role is for an experienced engineering leader passionate about building robust, scalable, and developer-friendly infrastructure that empowers millions of users.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the technical strategy and roadmap for Supabase's core engineering initiatives.
• Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration.
• Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of critical infrastructure, including database services, authentication, and real-time capabilities.
• Ensure the reliability, scalability, security, and performance of the core platform.
• Collaborate closely with product management, open-source community, and other engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Drive architectural decisions and best practices across the core engineering organization.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 4 years in a leadership or management role.
• Proven track record of leading and scaling engineering teams working on complex, distributed systems.
• Deep technical expertise in areas such as database systems (e.g., PostgreSQL), cloud infrastructure, and API design.
• Strong understanding of open-source principles and experience contributing to or managing open-source projects.
• Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working in a remote-first, fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-Haves

• Familiarity with Supabase's technology stack (PostgreSQL, Realtime, Auth, Storage).
• Experience with high-growth startups or developer-focused platforms.
• Contributions to significant open-source projects.
