Junior Backend Engineer

About the Role

Join Kalepa as a Junior Backend Engineer to build and improve AI-powered systems for the insurance industry, working on real product and R&D challenges.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to backend services and data/ML pipelines supporting commercial insurance underwriters.
• Build and enhance systems for ingesting, processing, and reasoning over large volumes of structured and unstructured data.
• Collaborate with experienced engineers on the design, building, testing, and operation of production systems.
• Take ownership of features end-to-end and contribute to the company's technology and business growth.

Requirements

• Approximately 1 year of professional software engineering experience building and shipping production systems.
• Strong fundamentals in at least one programming language, with proficiency in Python.
• Degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Enjoy writing code and solving non-trivial technical problems.
• Curiosity about AI, data, and real-world applications of machine learning.
• Ability to take ownership and work comfortably with ambiguity.
• Fast learner with a commitment to high standards.
• Appreciation for direct feedback, meritocracy, and transparency.

• Experience with AWS.
