Lead Software Engineer

About the Role

Join our dynamic team as a Lead Software Engineer to drive the technical direction and quality of our core writing application, impacting millions of students and teachers.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction, code quality standards, and engineering coordination for the writing-app.
• Review significant Pull Requests, providing substantive feedback and ensuring architectural integrity.
• Lead technical triage and coordination during incidents, driving root cause analysis and preventive measures.
• Translate product requirements into technical implementations and communicate technical status, risks, and trade-offs clearly.
• Drive obstacle resolution during sprints and identify/flag risks early.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building modern web applications in a SaaS environment, with significant full-stack experience.
• Strong proficiency in React/Next.js (frontend) and Python (backend).
• Comfortable with database design, API architecture, and frontend state management.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes, and monitoring (Datadog or similar).
• Demonstrated ability to self-direct and drive work to completion.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience giving and receiving direct technical feedback.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with rich text editors, document collaboration, or ProseMirror/similar frameworks.
• Comfort using AI-assisted coding tools (Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor) responsibly.
