Manager, Software Engineering (Merchant Data Platform)

About the Role

Lead a high-impact engineering team responsible for Affirm's critical Merchant Data Platform, a foundational backend service managing merchant data and identity. This remote role, based in Spain, offers the exciting opportunity to build and grow a new team in Poland, contributing to a checkout-critical platform that serves millions of requests daily.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and foster the growth of an engineering team focused on the core backend Merchant Data Platform service.
• Collaborate closely with the US-based Merchant Data Platform team to ensure strategic alignment and roadmap synchronization.
• Guide engineers in improving their designs, code quality, and testing practices.
• Take ownership of the availability, reliability, and performance of your team's systems.
• Partner with product managers to design and implement best-in-class systems and processes.
• Engage with diverse engineering teams across Affirm to build solutions throughout the merchant lifecycle.
• Cultivate strong relationships and engage with senior management within the organization.

Requirements

• 7+ years of proven experience in a software engineer role, including leadership responsibilities, with at least 1 year as an engineering manager.
• A strong drive to positively impact consumer financial services.
• Demonstrated experience in growing and managing a high-performing engineering team.
• Fluency and deep expertise in backend development.
• Prior experience in architecting scalable and reliable systems.
