Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural design and implementation of highly scalable, reliable, and performant systems for GitLab.com.
• Drive strategic initiatives to improve the overall health, stability, and efficiency of our production environment.
• Mentor and guide other engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement best practices for DevSecOps and site reliability.
• Proactively identify and address complex technical challenges, ensuring operational excellence and system resilience.

Requirements

• Extensive experience (10+ years) in Production Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or a similar role, with a proven track record of leading large-scale distributed systems.
• Deep expertise in designing, building, and operating highly available and performant cloud-native platforms.
• Strong understanding of DevSecOps principles and practices.
• Proficiency in cloud infrastructure (e.g., GCP, AWS, Azure) and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes).
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex production issues under pressure.
• Demonstrated leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence technical direction and mentor senior engineers.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with open-source contributions or community involvement.
• Familiarity with specific monitoring, logging, and alerting tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
• Background in security best practices for production systems.
• Experience working in a fully remote, globally distributed team.
