Research Scientist/Engineer

About the Role

Join Offchain Labs as a Research Scientist/Engineer to tackle fundamental challenges in blockchain scalability and security, shaping the future of decentralized applications.

Responsibilities

• Address core challenges in building scalable, secure, and reliable blockchain systems.
• Analyze emerging trends in crypto and blockchain to identify opportunities.
• Conduct feasibility studies for new protocols, architectures, and features.
• Design and write technical specifications and academic papers.
• Develop proofs of concept.
• Collaborate with research colleagues and other teams across the organization.

Requirements

• Doctorate degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related discipline, or Master’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
• 1–2 years of relevant research and development experience.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, security, or cryptographic research areas (e.g., distributed protocols, cryptographic algorithms, formal methods, secure multi-party computation, system security, data protection, privacy, authentication, payments, cryptocurrencies).
• Familiarity with or willingness to learn blockchain technologies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to explain complex concepts clearly.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience or interest with layer 2 technologies.
