Join the Apps Platform team as a Senior Android Engineer, where you'll empower mobile engineers across Reddit by building core platform components, improving developer efficiency, and setting technical direction for the Android ecosystem. This role is crucial for scaling our mobile engineering efforts and ensuring a high-performance, fault-tolerant user experience.

About the Team

The Apps Platform team functions as a foundational platform for all other mobile engineers at Reddit. Our primary customers are other engineers, and our mission is to enhance developer efficiency by providing essential libraries, APIs, frameworks, monitoring performance, building shared components, and improving build tools. We own core app components like the networking and caching stack, and we define the technical direction for the codebase, ensuring it scales effectively with Reddit's growing engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Build experiences and create patterns for Reddit’s official Android app that enhance core flows such as browsing posts, commenting, and content creation.
• Partner with product, design, and other engineering teams to innovate and implement sophisticated solutions for complex mobile challenges.
• Participate in the full Android development lifecycle, including design, development, quality assurance, experimentation, analysis, and deployment.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in Android development with expertise in Java or Kotlin.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals.
• Ability to embrace the challenges of building data-intensive, highly responsive, and fault-tolerant applications within the constrained environment of a smartphone.
• Willingness to explore new ways to build software and challenge existing trends.
• Passion for developing scalable, well-designed software that positively impacts users globally.
• Proven experience building and shipping at least one impactful Android application with a team.
