Senior Backend Engineer, Core

About the Role

Join our Core team as a Senior Backend Engineer to architect and scale foundational systems powering Tilt's real-time commerce experiences, from streams and checkout to payments and auctions.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable APIs and backend services supporting millions of real-time user interactions.
• Own core infrastructure components related to streaming, payments, auctions, and real-time bidding.
• Enhance performance, reliability, and observability across the technology stack.
• Collaborate with various teams to deliver systems that are fast, resilient, and developer-friendly.
• Contribute to defining and evolving backend best practices as the team grows.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building production-grade systems.
• Experience in early-stage startups or high-growth environments.
• Expertise in the Node.js ecosystem.
• Strong understanding of backend architecture and scalable system design.
• Deep experience with AWS and infrastructure-as-code (ideally with TypeScript CDK).
• Fluency with relational databases and data modeling.
• Clear communication skills (written, visual, and verbal).
• Self-directed and comfortable in a high-autonomy, low-ego culture.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with NestJS or similar backend frameworks.
• Familiarity with GraphQL APIs.
• Knowledge of document databases like MongoDB or DynamoDB.
• Exposure to frontend frameworks (Vue or React).

About the Team

You'll join a small, high-leverage Core team responsible for foundational infrastructure, performance, and reliability, collaborating closely with product engineers, infra specialists, data scientists, and leadership.
