Senior Backend Engineer (Elixir)

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of major projects for Remote's HR and Payroll products.
• Actively contribute to product ideation, providing technical insights and suggesting improvements.
• Maintain a deep understanding of the team's domain, encompassing both product and engineering aspects.
• Provide constructive feedback during code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug and resolve complex technical and business issues.
• Investigate, propose, and implement platform improvements.
• Implement interfaces with a focus on performance, accessibility, and API design.
• Redesign and operationalize agentic workflows for faster, more efficient delivery of outcomes.
• Build reusable agentic workflows and primitives for broad application across domains.
• Utilize verification loops (tests, checks, evaluations, guardrails) to ensure correctness, security, reliability, and scalability.
• Mentor and guide other engineers, fostering professional growth.

Requirements

• Strong engineering fundamentals with a proven track record of shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience designing or adopting agentic/automation workflows and iterating to improve them.
• Ability to think in systems: define clear specifications, break down plans, instrument verification, and ensure quality.
• Proficiency with Postgres or similar relational databases.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab, GitHub, Jenkins).

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with Docker.
• Cloud experience, particularly with AWS.
• Experience with Next.js.
• Frontend experience with React or Vue.js.
