About the Role

Join our team as a Senior Backend Software Engineer Contractor to deliver high-quality solutions for our Core curriculum product, focusing on manipulating and serving complex text and content data.

Responsibilities

• Develop and extend Python backend services responsible for processing and delivering content data to downstream systems and UIs.
• Write high-quality, resilient code and comprehensive automated tests to ensure design and quality standards are met.
• Independently own the delivery of features, providing thoughtful input on scoping and design decisions.
• Collaborate closely with the lead engineer to break down work, groom tickets, and organize sprints for timely delivery.
• Partner with Engineering and Product Management to refine ambiguous goals into clearly defined, iterative work items.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience in software development focusing on data models, backend services, and APIs within a SaaS environment.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Python and relational databases (e.g., Postgres or MySQL).
• Proven experience developing scalable REST APIs.
• Strong understanding of developer tooling and writing effective unit tests.
• Demonstrated ability to identify missing requirements early in the development cycle and maintain performant, scalable backend systems.
• Commitment to working collaboratively, participating actively in code reviews, and providing constructive feedback.

• Experience working with AWS.
• Familiarity with open-source technologies.
• Prior experience working on a full-stack team.
