Senior Commercial Legal Counsel, APAC

About the Role

As a Senior Commercial Legal Counsel for the APAC region, you will play a pivotal role in driving GitLab's growth by providing expert legal guidance on complex commercial transactions and regional market strategies. This high-impact position offers the opportunity to shape how we scale across diverse jurisdictions while collaborating with cross-functional teams in a dynamic, all-remote environment.

Responsibilities

• Negotiate complex commercial and technology agreements, including SaaS, licensing, data privacy, and AI-related contracts across APJ markets.
• Manage high-priority transactions while balancing legal risk with business objectives.
• Partner with regional Sales leadership to provide clear, actionable legal advice and facilitate deal execution.
• Develop and maintain regional contract templates, playbooks, and policies to ensure consistency.
• Coordinate with outside counsel on cross-border legal matters and country-specific regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• J.D. or equivalent legal credential with active bar membership or license in a relevant jurisdiction.
• Significant experience in commercial and technology transactions within the APJ region.
• Proven ability to navigate complex cross-border legal systems and provide business-focused risk assessments.
• Strong track record of building effective relationships with Sales teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Experience in creating and refining contract processes and documentation.

Nice-to-Haves

• Working proficiency in an APJ language, such as Japanese.
• Experience managing legal operations in a high-growth, remote-first technology company.
