Senior Data Platform Engineer (Contractor)

About the Role

Join our data team as a Senior Data Platform Engineer Contractor to design, build, and maintain critical data systems that power our applications and stakeholders. This is an exciting opportunity to drive significant impact through robust data infrastructure development.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with application developers and data stakeholders to implement data system changes and address complex data inquiries.
• Contribute to the full lifecycle of data initiatives, assisting in problem definition, scoping, design, and planning through epics and blueprints.
• Build, maintain, and optimize data pipelines and associated DAG tooling.
• Establish and maintain a comprehensive data catalog, ensuring accurate business-related metadata is present.
• Develop thorough documentation and actively participate in technical presentations, discussions, and incident reviews.
• Implement data testing strategies to guarantee resulting datastores align precisely with expected business logic.
• Establish and maintain monitoring, health checks, and alerting for all data systems and pipelines.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in data engineering, software engineering, or a closely related field.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and Python.
• Deep experience with relational datastores (both columnar and row databases).
• Proven proficiency in building and maintaining data pipelines and DAG tooling (e.g., Dagster, Airflow).
• Experience with event-based pipelines and Change Data Capture (CDC) tooling.
• Demonstrated experience in managing data migrations within relational datastores.
• Expertise in optimizing SQL query performance.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with DBT orchestration and best practices.
• Familiarity with writing and maintaining cloud-based infrastructure for data pipelines using AWS, GCP, and Terraform.
• Experience working with document, graph, or schema-less datastores.
