About the Role

Join Webflow as a Senior Database Reliability Engineer to ensure our critical databases and applications are performant, scalable, and highly reliable. This pivotal role combines deep database expertise with an application-aware mindset, directly impacting the seamless product experiences we deliver.

Responsibilities

• Optimize and tune database performance, including advanced query optimization.
• Design, maintain, and improve libraries connecting product applications to databases, including caching layers.
• Implement and manage caching strategies and database migrations.
• Collaborate closely with product engineers to align database changes with application needs.
• Script regularly for automation, infrastructure, and reliability tasks (e.g., YAML, Pulumi).
• Build tools and libraries to enhance database reliability and streamline developer workflows.
• Work in Linux/bash environments for scripting and systems operations.
• Support and scale MongoDB and PostgreSQL in production environments.
• Apply database reliability engineering practices to both SQL and NoSQL systems.
• Lead projects and contribute to functional strategy within the team.
• Mentor junior engineers in technical skills and Webflow culture.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional experience in database engineering, reliability engineering, or related roles, with a proven track record of scaling and optimizing production databases.
• Expertise in MongoDB and PostgreSQL at scale.
• Strong background in database optimization, query tuning, and migration planning.
• Familiarity with application-layer impacts of database changes and comfortable collaborating with product engineers.
• Skilled in scripting and automation (YAML, Pulumi, bash/Linux), with the ability to build supporting tools and libraries.
• Pragmatic problem-solver who can balance database reliability, performance, and developer productivity.

Desirable Skills

• Exposure to Node.js or similar languages, with the ability to work effectively in a Node.js monolith when needed.
• Experience contributing to engineering citizenship activities like blogs or improving hiring processes.
