Senior Director, Software Engineering (Machine Learning)

About the Role

Lead the strategic direction and execution of Machine Learning and AI capabilities at Affirm, driving innovation and significant business impact across critical financial products.

Responsibilities

• Set the vision for Machine Learning and AI at Affirm.
• Build and lead world-class ML modeling, platform, and software engineering teams.
• Own the core model development lifecycle and business outcomes for established verticals like underwriting, fraud, servicing, and personalization.
• Champion AI adoption in both existing and new products, collaborating closely with product and business leadership.
• Strategically balance ML investments across traditional ML and transformer-based models.
• Evolve the ML platform to support increasing ML needs across Affirm, with a special emphasis on training, tuning, and serving AI models.
• Cultivate a culture of rapid experimentation and a robust, yet shortened ML development lifecycle.
• Partner with diverse cross-functional teams including product, risk, servicing, legal, and compliance.

Requirements

• 15+ years of relevant experience in Machine Learning, AI, or related technical domains.
• Proven experience leading centralized ML teams comprising both ML modelers and ML platform engineers.
• Successful track record in deploying key models responsible for company success that directly drive PnL.
• Comfortable working and leading effectively within complex matrix organizations.
