Senior Engineer, Core Network

About the Role

Join Airalo as a Senior Core Network Engineer to architect and scale the global network that keeps millions of travelers connected worldwide, tackling complex challenges in a fully remote, high-impact environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and scaling of our Packet Core (EPC/5GC) to support exponential user growth.
• Architect and manage global connectivity, including roaming coverage via IPX/GRX providers and securing bi-lateral agreements.
• Perform deep-dive signaling analysis (Diameter, GTP) using tools like Wireshark to troubleshoot connection failures across 3G, 4G, and 5G NSA.
• Optimize critical network flows for attachment, voice, and data bearers to ensure precise data delivery.
• Lead design reviews and manage the Acceptance Testing (ATP) phase for partner deliverables.

Requirements

• Significant experience in the "engine room" of a Tier 1 Carrier, Mobile Operator, or major Equipment Provider.
• Fluency in mobile network technologies: 3G (SGSN/GGSN), 4G (MME/PGW), and 5G.
• Solid understanding of IP networking, including BGP routing, subnets, and ASN management.
• Hands-on experience architecting DNS hierarchy (S-NAPTR) for mobile node discovery.

Nice-to-Haves

• Practical experience in an MVNO or MVNE environment.
• Experience with Cloud Native Network Functions (CNF) and containerized cores.
• Familiarity with Local Breakout (LBO) strategies.
• Understanding of managing roaming through Sponsor IMSIs.
