Senior Engineering Manager - Security Platform Engineering

About the Role

Lead and mentor two high-performing engineering teams focused on building robust security platforms and tools to protect Canva's systems and data, empowering all engineers to build secure code with ease.

Responsibilities

• Manage and mentor software engineering teams responsible for designing and implementing security software.
• Define and own the strategy and roadmap for security platform and development teams, balancing security with developer experience.
• Coach and develop engineers, providing regular feedback for their professional growth.
• Oversee team development methodologies, including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives, to foster a high-performing team environment.
• Drive internal adoption of security systems across Canva's engineering teams, championing their benefits.

Requirements

• Proven experience in directly managing high-performing software engineering teams.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, capable of engaging with principal-level engineers and contributing to complex software architecture.
• Experience partnering cross-functionally with software engineering, SRE/DevOps, and compliance teams.
• Proficiency in languages such as Golang, Java, Rust, or similar.
• Experience building and operating cloud-based services.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience in security domains such as application sandboxing, encryption, or vulnerability scanning.
• Understanding of the security products industry and security risk assessment.
• Familiarity with infrastructure tools like Terraform, Helm, or Kubernetes.
• Experience with CI/CD systems and defining integration pipelines.
