Senior Machine Learning Engineer - AI Effects and Editing

About the Role

Join our Video team to design, fine-tune, and deploy cutting-edge ML models that power Canva’s next-generation video effects and interactive experiences. You will bridge the gap between research and production, transforming innovative AI concepts into real-time features that empower millions of users to tell compelling visual stories.

Responsibilities

• Design, fine-tune, and deploy ML models for AI-powered visual effects across image and video modalities.
• Build robust pipelines for LoRA-based model training, post-training quantization, and inference optimization.
• Develop and integrate on-device ML capabilities (MediaPipe, CoreML, NNAPI) to ensure mobile runtime efficiency.
• Scale backend services for effect model serving, asset management, and real-time rendering.
• Prototype novel AI effects using diffusion models, computer vision, and shader-driven approaches.

Requirements

• Academic or practical background in computer graphics, computer vision, or computer animation.
• Proven experience fine-tuning and deploying computer vision models for real-time or streaming use cases.
• Proficiency in backend development (Python or Go) and model-serving architectures.
• Practical knowledge of computer graphics APIs (OpenGL/OpenGLES) and shader development (GLSL/HLSL).
• Strong understanding of LoRA training, model post-processing, and on-device inference optimization.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with AI effect tools, video post-production, or multimedia ML applications.
• Familiarity with physical simulation, character animation, or geometric processing.
• A mindset that balances research curiosity with rapid product iteration.
