Senior React Native Engineer (Contract)

About the Role

We are seeking an expert Senior React Native Engineer on a contract basis to drive the development and maintenance of our critical iOS application, focusing heavily on deep WebView integration and feature parity with web experiences.

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and own the delivery of features for a scalable iOS application using React Native, emphasizing deep WebView integration (authentication, cookie handling, file downloads, and safe JS/native bridging).
• Collaborate cross-functionally with backend, frontend, product, and design teams to refine requirements and proactively address gaps between native and web functionality.
• Own the end-to-end feature lifecycle, including implementation, testing, CI/CD, and release documentation, requiring minimal supervision.
• Ensure the application adheres to modern React Native best practices, accessibility standards, and responsiveness.
• Manage App Store compliance, including adherence to Guideline 4.2 (Minimum Functionality) and responding to review processes.
• Triage critical fixes and security updates for the legacy native iOS app while developing a clear deprecation and transition plan.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience building modern web and mobile applications in a SaaS environment, with significant focus on React Native for iOS.
• Expert-level proficiency in React.js and React Native (functional components, hooks, navigation, performance patterns).
• Strong practical proficiency in TypeScript and familiarity with core native iOS concepts.
• Proven experience implementing complex React Native WebView scenarios, including authentication redirects, cookie management, and native navigation integration.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with REST APIs, data relationships, and caching strategies.
• Experience shipping applications to the Apple App Store, including TestFlight, phased releases, and addressing review rejections.
• Comfortably leverage AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Copilot) while maintaining high standards for code quality, security, and licensing awareness.

• Experience contributing to React web applications, particularly around shared component libraries.
• Familiarity with LLM-powered workflows for development efficiency.
• Experience designing features that clearly surpass the "website-in-an-app" threshold through native integrations or offline capabilities.
