About the Role

Join Affirm's fully remote Settlements team in Europe as a Senior Software Engineer, Backend, to reinvent credit and build the critical technical foundation for financial partner and merchant obligations. This is an exciting opportunity to lead impactful projects, ensure financial safety and accountability, and collaborate across global teams.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly team goals, guiding engineers through complex problem-solving and ensuring support throughout delivery.
• Collaborate closely with Product Management, Design, and Analytics teams on the product development lifecycle, articulating technical constraints and partnering on decisions.
• Proactively identify and lead solutions for project, process, technology, or business issues.
• Support the operations and availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and contributing to on-call efforts.
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting and improving code review and design standards, and advocating for them.
• Help develop talent on your team by providing feedback, guidance, and leading by example.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineer in backend development, ideally within a fintech or financial services environment.
• Strong proficiency in a modern backend programming language (e.g., Java, Python, Go, Scala) and experience with distributed systems.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects, drive initiatives, and mentor other engineers.
• Experience with ensuring system safety, accountability, and adherence to industry standards.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate ambiguity in complex technical and business domains.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for working effectively with cross-functional and international stakeholders.
• Ability to thrive in a fully remote work environment, collaborating across different time zones.

About the Team

The Settlements team is fundamental to Affirm's operations, building the technical infrastructure and daily processes that enable the company to meet its obligations with financial partners and merchants. You will be part of a fully remote team based in Europe, collaborating closely with stakeholders across North America and Europe, including Product, Treasury Operations, and Customer Success teams.
