Senior Software Engineer, Card Loan Platform

About the Role

Join Affirm's core platform team to engineer the high-throughput decision engine powering our flagship card products, solving complex, real-time distributed systems challenges at massive scale.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems within the Card Loan Platform.
• Partner closely with product, design, and analytics teams during ideation, articulating technical constraints and making risk-aware trade-off decisions.
• Proactively identify, advocate for, and lead the resolution of project, process, technology, or business issues.
• Ensure operational excellence by creating and monitoring metrics, supporting on-call efforts, and maintaining the availability of critical platform artifacts.
• Foster a culture of quality by setting and improving code review and design standards, and mentoring team members through guidance and leading by example.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages such as Python or Kotlin.
• Proven track record developing highly available distributed systems utilizing technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Demonstrated ability to define a technical plan for significant features, resulting in elegant, simple, and extensible designs.
• Proficiency in safely making significant changes within large, complex codebases, supported by developed tooling and practices.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills necessary for effective collaboration across a global engineering team.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
