Join Goodnotes as a Senior Software Engineer, Cross-platform Toolchain, to drive the future of cross-platform app development using Swift and LLVM, enhancing Wasm & Android support. You will empower other engineers to build the best notetaking and productivity application across multiple platforms.

About the Team

After significant success on iOS, Goodnotes is expanding its product to Android, Web, and Windows. You will join a highly international cross-platform engineering team, focused on delivering top-quality products beyond iOS devices. As a Compiler engineer, you'll be part of a small, autonomous squad within this team, contributing to a truly asynchronous work environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead state-of-the-art development for Swift and Wasm support, contributing to both Goodnotes and the broader web technology and multiplatform development communities.
• Scope and spearhead technical projects within the Swift codebase, including implementing multithreading for Swift on Wasm and improving JNI support for Swift on Android.
• Collaborate with the LLVM community and Apple contacts to enhance performance and reliability for Swift on Wasm, Android, and generally.
• Work with the product infrastructure team to improve Swift tooling and the developer environment.
• Engage with the Swift and LLVM communities on forums, contributing to bug fixes and future proposals.
• Contribute to the open-source community by upstreaming work to benefit the ecosystem.

Requirements

• Experience with the LLVM (or other compiler like GCC) codebase, ideally with Swift source code.
• Proven experience tech leading critical projects or initiatives within a team or organization.
• Experience working on large, complex codebases.
• Strong understanding of how to improve systems for better maintainability, debugging, and clarity.
• Enthusiasm for elegant, maintainable, and user-friendly build tooling and configuration.
• Pragmatic approach with the ability to see the bigger picture, reason about prioritization, and manage scope.
• Bias for action, embracing rapid iteration and learning quickly through fast failure.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting technical plans, risks, blockers, and mitigation strategies to a broader engineering team.

Nice-to-Haves

• Familiarity with Wasm and Android.
• Experience maintaining open-source projects, including understanding and fulfilling external needs beyond specifications, such as providing tooling, build systems, processes, and guidelines for issues and improvement proposals.
