Senior Software Engineer

About the Role

Join Affirm's fully remote Fraud Engineering team in Europe to build critical backend systems that protect our platform, buyers, and merchants by strategically responding to evolving fraud patterns. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven company reinventing credit.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems and ensuring support throughout delivery.
• Design and implement backend services and APIs using Python or Kotlin within Affirm’s microservice and event-driven architecture.
• Actively shape the team’s roadmap, collaborate on technical design, and drive execution across multi-team projects.
• Partner with the Engineering Manager and teammates to elevate quality standards, evolve engineering processes, and represent the team in cross-functional initiatives.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders in Fraud Operations, Compliance, Product, Machine Learning, and Analytics to build scalable fraud tooling and infrastructure.

Requirements

• Proven experience designing and implementing robust backend services and APIs.
• Proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
• Experience with microservice and event-driven architectures.
• Demonstrated ability to lead projects, own delivery, and navigate ambiguous technical challenges.
• Strong collaboration and cross-functional communication skills.
• Experience or strong interest in fraud detection, prevention, or risk management systems.

The Fraud Engineering organization builds foundational and tactical software to enable Affirm to strategically respond to fraud in real-time and post-transaction. Our mission is to support business growth while protecting Affirm, our buyers, and our merchants by evaluating risk, adapting to evolving fraud patterns, and equipping operations teams with investigation tools. This is a fully remote team based in Europe, collaborating closely with North American stakeholders including Product, Compliance, Machine Learning, Fraud Operations, Fraud Strategy, and other Engineering teams.
