Senior Software Engineer

About the Role

Join our team as a Senior Software Engineer to build critical go-to-market functions for our real-time lending decisioning engine, directly impacting our credit union partners and their members. This role offers the opportunity to independently debug complex issues, drive continuous improvement, and lead technical implementations from discovery to deployment.

About the Team

The team is responsible for developing Clutch's real-time lending decisioning engine, collaborating closely with Credit, Product, and Implementation teams to enhance auto-decision rates and reduce funding time for our credit union partners. We operate with a clear cadence, shared rituals, and a focus on continuous improvement, with engineers owning outcomes end-to-end from discovery through rollout and monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Debug and resolve complex issues independently, providing clear root-cause analysis and documenting learnings.
• Take ownership of features end-to-end, from clarifying requirements to deployment.
• Build and apply working knowledge of decisioning engine features and rules, explaining their product impact.
• Proactively communicate progress, risks, and blockers to ensure alignment with teammates and stakeholders.
• Lead technical implementation for features or partner go-lives, coordinating with stakeholders.
• Anticipate potential problems in requirements or design, proposing data-driven alternatives.
• Contribute high-quality code reviews that ensure standards, provide mentorship, and elevate peers’ practices.
• Lead and deliver small-to-medium scoped projects independently, including technical design, planning, and rollout.
• Represent engineering context and constraints clearly to cross-functional and external stakeholders.
• Proactively identify technical debt or process gaps and drive initiatives to resolve them with measurable impact.

Requirements

• Strong product-oriented mindset, connecting technical decisions with business impact.
• Proven ability to debug and resolve complex issues independently, providing clear root-cause analysis.
• Experience collaborating cross-functionally with Product, Implementation, and external stakeholders.
• Consistent ownership of small-to-medium projects end-to-end, from discovery and design to deployment and follow-up.
• Ability to critically evaluate requirements, anticipate risks, and propose pragmatic alternatives.
• Advanced English skills, both spoken and written.

• Previous experience with loan origination systems is a strong differentiator.
