Software Engineer, Compute

About the Role

Join our Compute team to build and scale the foundational platform powering all compute operations at Vercel, from serverless functions to secure sandboxes. This role offers the flexibility of remote work or a hybrid model in key office locations, contributing to a platform that enables the world to ship the best products.

Responsibilities

• Manage and optimize a global fleet of compute clusters, handling hundreds of instances across customer deployment regions.
• Develop and maintain core platform components primarily using Golang.
• Provision and manage infrastructure using Terraform.
• Utilize Nomad for scheduling and orchestrating workloads.
• Build and enhance a platform designed to securely run untrusted customer code, focusing on performance improvements with significant impact.

Requirements

• Proficiency in Golang for daily development.
• Experience with infrastructure as code, particularly Terraform.
• Familiarity with workload schedulers; experience with Nomad is a plus.
• Understanding of distributed systems and managing large-scale compute environments.
• Ability to build secure platforms for untrusted code.

Work Arrangement

• This role offers flexible work options:
  • Hybrid model with in-office anchor days (Monday, Tuesday, Friday) if within commuting distance of San Francisco, New York, London, or Berlin.
  • Fully remote if located beyond the predetermined commuting distance.
