Software Engineer II, Backend

About the Role

Join Affirm's Decisions and Pricing team to build and enhance the core credit decisioning systems that power honest and friendly credit experiences for millions of consumers and merchants across Europe.

Responsibilities

• Break down large technical projects into manageable, deliverable phases, ensuring timely execution with team support.
• Collaborate closely with Product Management, Design, and Analytics during ideation, clearly articulating technical constraints and trade-offs.
• Support the operational health and availability of backend artifacts by creating and monitoring key metrics, participating in on-call rotations, and assisting with 'keep the lights on' efforts.
• Contribute to team growth and community by participating in code reviews and the interview process.

Requirements

• 1.5+ years of professional experience as a software engineer.
• Proven experience designing, developing, and launching robust backend systems.
• Proficiency in either Python or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with distributed systems building blocks, including technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex business scenarios into well-tested, extensible code interacting with multiple software components.
• Strong skills in navigating large codebases, debugging, and providing constructive feedback via code reviews.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration within a global engineering team.
