Software Engineer II, Backend

About the Role

Join Affirm's Identity Engineering team to build and maintain critical, high-availability, and low-latency backend systems that power consumer onboarding, authentication, and verification across all Affirm products. This role offers the opportunity to deeply understand business and product context while delivering foundational technology.

Responsibilities

• Break down complex projects into manageable tasks, delivering in phases, and collaborating with team members for timely completion.
• Partner with product management, design, and analytics stakeholders throughout the product development lifecycle, contributing to ideation and technical decision-making.
• Ensure the operational health and availability of team systems by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating issues, and participating in on-call rotations.
• Contribute to team growth and community by engaging in activities like the interview process.

Requirements

• 1.5+ years of professional experience as a software engineer.
• Proven experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems.
• Proficiency in either Python or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with distributed systems concepts and technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience designing, developing, and launching APIs at scale.
