Software Engineer II, Backend

About the Role

Join Affirm's Decisions and Pricing team to build and enhance the core credit decisioning systems that power our honest and friendly 'buy now, pay later' experience for millions of consumers and merchants.

Responsibilities

• Break down large projects into manageable phases and deliver high-quality backend system features with support from technical leadership.
• Collaborate closely with Product Management, Design, and Analytics during ideation, articulating technical constraints and partnering on risk-aware decisions.
• Support the operational health and availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, participating in on-call rotations, and ensuring system stability.
• Contribute to team growth and community by actively participating in code reviews and the interview process.

Requirements

• 1.5+ years of professional experience as a software engineer.
• Proven experience designing, developing, and launching robust backend systems.
• Proficiency in either Python or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with distributed systems building blocks, including technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex business scenarios into clear, well-tested, and extensible code interacting with multiple software components.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration within a global engineering team.
