Staff Data Scientist - Risk

About the Role

Join our newly formed Risk team to architect the next generation of decisioning systems and data frameworks that protect our customers and the financial ecosystem. This is a high-impact role where you will shape our risk strategy, influence product direction, and leverage data to solve complex challenges in the evolving world of Bitcoin.

Responsibilities

• Partner with engineering and product teams to design the architecture for internal risk systems, data instrumentation, and decisioning workflows.
• Define and track key risk metrics, including fraud loss, false positives, and operational efficiency, to guide business prioritization.
• Conduct deep-dive investigations into fraud and abuse patterns to identify emerging threats and opportunities for improvement.
• Apply statistical methods and selective machine learning techniques to enhance decision quality and automate risk controls.
• Communicate complex analytical insights to senior stakeholders to drive strategic decision-making across the organization.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in Data Science, Decision Science, or a related analytical role.
• Proven expertise in fraud, risk, trust and safety, or AML compliance analytics.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and Python for data manipulation and modeling.
• Experience with regression, classification, experiment design, and causal inference.
• Familiarity with modern cloud data warehouses and transformation tools like Snowflake and dbt.
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate technical analysis into clear business recommendations.

• Prior experience in the fintech, payments, or cryptocurrency industries.
• Strong interest in Bitcoin and the broader decentralized finance ecosystem.
• Experience leading analytical strategy and shaping long-term roadmaps in ambiguous environments.
