Staff Software Engineer, AI Tools and Security

About the Role

Join Docker's AI Tools & Security team as a Staff Backend Engineer to lead the technical direction of our MCP Gateway, building secure, developer-friendly AI infrastructure and shaping the future of agent-based development. This is a high-impact role where you'll ship fast, iterate constantly, and deliver elegant frameworks and APIs that developers love.

Responsibilities

• Define and lead the technical solutions for new products, particularly the MCP Gateway.
• Collaborate closely with Product and Design peers to shape product vision and features.
• Mentor and guide other technical team members, fostering growth and best practices.
• Act as the primary technical point of contact for the team.
• Drive products from conception to market, ensuring successful delivery and adoption.

Requirements

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience building production-grade systems.
• Strong product mindset with a passion for creating developer-facing tools.
• Deep understanding of software engineering best practices, including code review, source control, CI/CD, and testing.
• Expertise in distributed and highly scalable systems, cloud-native infrastructure, and API design.
• Proven experience building secure, high-throughput services.
• Proficiency in modern programming languages, with a primary focus on Go.
• Ownership mentality, with a strong bias for shipping, learning, and iterating quickly.
• Ability to work autonomously and effectively within distributed, remote teams.
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and microservices architecture.
• Prior experience with OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar LLM APIs, and the Model Context Protocol (MCP) specification.
