Staff Software Engineer, Back-end (Identity Engineering)

About the Role

Join our mission-critical Identity Engineering team to shape the foundational processes that unlock revenue and build customer trust on a global scale, impacting Affirm's international expansion.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long time scale and lead critical, business-impacting projects.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to ensure technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs are understood and managed.
• Act as a force multiplier by defining and advocating for technical solutions and operational processes.
• Own team operations and availability through robust monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting for on-call efforts.
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards and advocating for them beyond the team.
• Develop talent on the team through feedback, guidance, and leading by example.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Extensive track record of developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Experience delivering major features, system components, or deprecating existing functionality through technical and execution plans.
• Ability to write high-quality, easily understood, and reusable code.
