Tech Lead, Android Core Product

About the Role

Lead the development of Speechify's core Android product, a leading text-to-speech application used by millions worldwide. This is a pivotal role for an experienced Android engineer passionate about user experience and shaping the future of a rapidly growing product.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver major features in close collaboration with the design team.
• Drive the technical direction and roadmap for the Android team.
• Maintain and improve the reliability of key application features.
• Participate in cross-functional discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Review code, mentor teammates, and ensure high-quality feature releases.
• Handle critical issues and unexpected challenges.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proven experience building and contributing to at least one Android application.
• Deep expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Strong understanding of Android components and architecture.
• Excellent product design intuition, user empathy, and a drive to push UI/UX boundaries.
• Commitment to testing and code quality.
• Self-motivated with a proactive approach to improving the app and codebase.
• Excellent communication and user-oriented problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience contributing to open-source Android projects.
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS development.
